YOu are correct. We were told that the reason is to protect themselves and their family members who may have the allergies. It is too risky unfortunately to make them and/or family members vulverable to "crazies" in our world. We are deperately seeking a celebrity to raise thier hand and to join our cause. We have started a foundation to put pressure on food mfg to ensure the food is labeled accurately.
We recently had an episode with Tofutti Cuties in which milk was detected as an ingredient and my son had an anaphylactic reaction.

I guess this a decent reason to not go public with an allergy. It is such a shame because we do need some publicity to help get the word out. I do think that allergies are more in the public view then ever before. But, I think that only people who have had some first hand experience really truly understand the problem. The question is though, should we allow fear to dictate what we do? What if some advocate of an allergy got somehow thrust in the lime light? I don't know, I think that fear of exposure can not be the only motivating factor. I mean celebrities have to trust all kinds of people for all kinds of things. They could just be poisoned too. There is not a rash of that kind of thing happening that I know of. Doesn't every one have an adverse reaction to arsenic? Do they not want to get a reputation for being difficult? Who knows.

Heidi Collins (CNN News each weekday morning) is a Celiac and spokeperson for the Awareness for Celiac Foundation. She went through some really traumatic events prior to diagnosis and I think does a few specials on gluten free living etc.
Nice lady too.

That is great. I am glad to see that people are finally willing to "come out of the closet".

This link is about a segment on the View
where Elizabeth Hasselbeck talks about her
Celiac disease! Hurry!
