The National Mall in Washington D.C. is home to some of the greated wonders of the United States of America, including monumnets to U.S. Presidents.

All eyes are on Washington D.C. as the nation prepares for the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. The National Mall and Memorial Parks are home to many of the natural wonders of the United States. Monuments provide visitors with reminders of some of the great presidents and the war veterans who sacrificed for a free nation.

The National Park Service has provided information about some of their most prominent icons in Washington. Monuments are points of interest for the many visitors to Washington D.C. Some of the most prominent monuments to presidents are The Washington Monument, The Thomas Jefferson Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial and The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

The Washington Monument

George Washington was a founding father and first president of the United States. The monument to the man who led the country to independence was completed in 1884. The Washington Monument is shaped like an Egyptian obelisk, stands 555’ 5 1/8” tall and has views in excess of thirty miles.

The Washington Monument is open every day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Monument is closed on Inauguration Day, July 4 and December 25.

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial

Thomas Jefferson was one of the American Founding Fathers and the third President of the United States. The Memorial is a circular shaped neoclassical building, with Ionic order columns and a shallow dome, that was completed in 1942.

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is open 24 hours a day. Rangers are on duty to answer questions from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm daily.

The Lincoln Memorial

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, led the nation through the Civil War. “In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.” Beneath these words, the 16th President of the United States—the Great Emancipator and preserver of the nation during the Civil War—sits immortalized in marble. The Lincoln Memorial is an enduring symbol of freedom.

The Lincoln Memorial is open 24 hours a day. Rangers are on duty to answer questions daily from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm.

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United States. Roosevelt guided the nation through the Great Depression and World War II

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial is open 24 hours a day. Rangers are on duty 24 daily from 9:309 am to 11:30 pm.

Washington DC, in the Mid Atlantic, has temperate climate. There are four distinct seasons.

  • Spring - mild
  • Summer – hot and humid
  • Fall – mild
  • Winter – cold with freezing precipitation and some snow

The Monuments on the National Mall in Washington D.C. are managed and maintained by the National Park Service.
