Holiday Events Light up City with Lights, Decorations and Arts

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is festive during the Christmas holidays, with a parade, decorated parks and live performing arts, music, theatre and ballet delighting the family.

The holiday season has officially started in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with holiday lights decorating the streets and the parks for six weeks, to the city. from November 20 through January 4. On Saturday, November 22, 2008 the 82nd annual Holiday Parade is held. There are Christmas themed events throughout the city for the entire holiday season. Here some of the holiday highlights, including the holiday lights, parade, theater and arts.

82nd Annual Holiday Parade

The parade, sponsored by Johnson Controls, is held on Saturday, November 22 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. There is a new parade route this year. The parade starts at the intersection of Astor Street and Kilbourn Avenue and proceeds west on Kilbourn to Water Street, jogs north on Water to State Street and heads west to Old world 3rd Street, where it turns southward and finishes at Wisconsin Avenue.

The Holiday Parade, which will be televised locally on Fox 6, features about 100 units, including 20 award winning marching bands, floats, Macy's Parade type helium balloons, live animal entourages, a live nativity, local TV and radio personalities, costumed characters, Ronald McDonald, specialty vehicles, CP Rail Express and Santa Claus. The parade takes about an hour to pass any given point.

Johnson Controls volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food items along the route for the Hunger Task Force Food For Families.

Community Spirit Park at Cathedral Square Park

Cathedral Square Park has been decorated with the theme Community Spirit Park by over 50 schools throughout metro Milwaukee. Each school's tree is adorned with handmade ornaments that represent a class theme or wish. In the center is a 50 foot tree that changes colors from red to blue to green. The park is presented by Milwaukee County Parks, Columbia St. Mary's and Madison Medical Affiliates.

Gingerbread Dreams at Pere Marquette Park

Sweet scenes of candy canes, gumdrops and dancing gingerbread men are the stuff of holiday fantasies. Presented by Milwaukee County Parks, The shops of Grand Avenue and Towne Investments.

Frost Fun at Zeidler Union Square

Animated snowmen are skiing, skating and snow boarding around the square. Presented by Milwaukee County Parks and We Energies.

A Christmas Carol at Pabst Theater

A Christmas Carol buring the Charles Dicken's classic Christmas tale ith Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and the spirts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Future back to life at Pabst Threater in Milwaukee from November 28 through December 28. 1-414-224-9490.

The Nutcracker Suite Ballet at Marcus Center - Uihlein Hall

The Nutcracter Suite is a beautiful ballet fantasy about Clara, the Nutcracker Prince, dancing toys, marching soldiers and snow fairies is presented by the Milwaukee Ballet from December 12 - 28 at Uihlein Hall at Marcus Center in Milwaukee. 1-414-902-2103.

Miracle on 34th Street at Waukesha Civic Theatre

The Waukesha Civic Theatre presents Miracle on 34th Street from December 12 - 28 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. 1-262-547-0708.

Neapolitan Creche Display
