Allergies can have devastating effects on a person.

Do you have allergies? Are you constantly going to see your doctor for medication to help with the aches and pains? Well, a new study suggests that people who suffer from pain and are tired all the time may not have the most common types of illnesses that cause pain, such as fibromyalgia.

Recently, a study done of over 10,000 people showed that aches, pains, soreness and the continuous feeling of being worn out, was due to the fact that these people suffered regularly with sinusitis. A clinical professor of medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center recently stated that chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis and fibromyalgia - could all be stemming from a misdiagnosis of pain and tiredness related to perpetual sinus infections.

A Few of the Symptoms

Some of the major symptoms are the feeling of not wanting to do anything, which is also diagnosed as chronic fatigue syndrome and body aches - much like those associated with the common flu virus. Dull achy pains are also a culprit.

If you feel like you have any of the above symptoms and you have had a series of sinus attacks recently or throughout your life, you should revisit your physician and get another opinion on your current health issues.

Sinusitis affects more than a million people a year. Here are a few ways you can handle things at home: Some things to try are a saline spray, like Equate. These nasal sprays act as a decongestant and also help break up the phlegm. Antihistamine helps block the natural effects of the histamine in our bodies. Products that have helped patients in this regard include Claritin D and children's chewable Benadryl.

The Importance of Seeing a Doctor for Allergies

It is very important to know when your at-home remedies are not helping well enough. This is when you need to talk to your physician about possible surgeries to help open up your sinuses. 200,000 people a year have an endoscopic sinus surgery every year, and it is suggested that this type of surgery only be an option after 3 months of unsuccessful treatment.

Your sinuses are not something you can put aside and walk away from. They are a continual part of your being. To help you feel better and become stronger it is a wise idea to monitor your allergies; never let your attacks go longer than a week. If you see you are having many sinus attacks over a period of three months, you need to switch doctors and find a cure. Always be in contact with your physician, no matter how serious you think your sinus infection may be.
